Snow Guards

Snow guards are placed on the roof in a specific arrangement. Their purpose is to prevent snow avalanches, which can lead to snow falling from the roof and causing damage (bending and breaking gutters, ventilation openings, cables, canopies, damage to cars, even injuries to animals and people).

It is known that during melting, snow creates an ice layer about 2cm thick under the covering. Under certain weather conditions, the snow with this layer suddenly starts to move, and then snow falls from the roof. The role of the snow guard is to prevent this snow movement. Snow guards are distributed on the roof so that they 'catch' as much snow as possible on as large a surface as possible and eliminate movement. If snow movement does occur, the snow guards should 'cut the snow into cubes' so that smaller, less dangerous pieces fall from the roof.

Only a sufficient number of well-distributed snow guards guarantees prevention of avalanches. Austrian and German standards prescribe 2 to 2.5 snow guards per m2 of total roof surface for average slopes. In our (economic) conditions, a minimum number of snow guards is placed according to an arrangement that has proven correct through many years of practice.

It is recommended to 'reach' at least halfway up the roof with this arrangement, and to place twice as many snow guards in the bottom row (on every other tile). The number of pieces depends on the roof slope and rafter length. For steeper roofs of longer lengths, more rows of snow guards should be installed.

Installation is easy and fast. It's easiest to install them during tile (or shingle) installation. They can also be installed without problems on already installed covering. Where a snow guard needs to be placed, lift the upper tile slightly, insert the snow guard tip with the hook (various shapes, adapted to specific tiles) and hook it onto the tile.

Snow guards are made entirely by machine (pressing). The snow guard profile is reinforced with deep ribs. Critical places on the snow guard (longer side of the triangle and tip with hook) are additionally reinforced (gripped). Connection (when forming the triangle) is done mechanically (riveting), which ensures the best connection for various materials.

Made from galvanized and copper sheet 1mm thick. Galvanized snow guards are subsequently plasticized in appropriate colors.
